QPR have terminated the contract of manager Mark Hughes following a disastrous start to the season.

The former Manchester City, Fulham and Blackburn boss has had a torrid time at the helm of Rangers this season, failing to win a single Barclays Premier League game in 12 attempts.

Rangers sit at the foot of the table, already five points adrift of safety, and the board of elected to get rid of the Welshman in time for his successor to prepare for the upcoming transfer window.

"Queens Park Rangers Football Club has today (Friday) terminated the contract of manager Mark Hughes with immediate effect,'' the club announced through their Twitter account.

QPR are the only club in the top four English divisions yet to win a game, and their 3-0 win over League One side Walsall in the League Cup is their only victory in all competitions.

"This decision has been taken after careful consideration by the Board of Directors, following numerous meetings over the last few days,'' read a statement on the QPR website.

"Mark has shown integrity and professionalism throughout his time here, but ultimately the circumstances we find ourselves in have left the Board of Directors with very little choice but to make a change.

"The Board will now be working actively to put a new managerial structure in place as soon as possible.

"Mark Bowen and Eddie Niedzwiecki will take charge of the R's trip to Manchester United in the Barclays Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

"The club will be making a further announcement in due course.''

Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp is the early favourite to take up the vacant position.

Redknapp has been without a club since leaving Spurs in peculiar circumstances at the end of last season.

The news of Hughes sacking comes just a day after QPR's West London rivals Chelsea decided to sack their own manager Roberto Di Matteo and quickly replace him with former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez.
