HE'S not a house hold name but NBA import Sam Young will give the Sydney Kings fans plenty to be excited about when he joins Shane Heal's team next week.
The 28 year old has played 249 games in his five years in the NBA with the Memphis Grizzlies (Three seasons), the Philadelphia 76ers (One season) and the undefeated (8-0) Indiana Pacers (One season).
The 198cm, 102kg swingman is expected to have an instant impact in the NBL after playing big minutes in the NBA making 52 starts in his five seasons.
Young's first game is expected to be against the Wildcats in Perth setting up the tantalising prospect of going head to head with excitement machine James Ennis.
Ennis has taken the NBL by storm this year with some monster dunks drawing comparisons with former King Leon Trimmingham.
Kings fans will have to wait a while to see their star import in action with their next four games after tonight's home game against Townsville on the road.
The December 14 match at the Entertainment Centre against the Wollongong Hawks looks likely to be Young's first game in Sydney.
Young's agent Joel Bell broke the news broke in US media yesterday declaring his player will be the highest paid player in the NBL.
"Sam had other options but this one made the most sense and will pay him as the highest player in the league," Bell said.
The news caught the Kings on the hop and left Heal with the difficult task of letting import Jesse Sanders know he would be playing his last game for the Kings against Townsville at the Entertainment centre tonight.
The match against the Crocodiles is sure to be an emotional one for Sanders and his team mates as he suits up for the last time with the Kings.
Sydney are looking to maintain their hold on third spot against another team with playoff ambitions.
The Kings have lost just one game at home this season going down 82-72 to the Wildcats at the Entertainment Centre in round three.
The signing is likely to move the third placed Kings into championship calculations with big man AJ Ogilvy in good form and perimeter players Ben Madgen and Charles Carmouche getting better every game.
Young also spent a short time at the San Antonio Spurs but was cut in the pre-season.
Kings fans will be hoping Sam Young fairs better than another US import Kenne Young who was one of the team's great disappointments when he arrived and departed in 1991.
But he did leave Sydney with a memorable quote when he said "I like dunking more than sex."
