WORLD Supersport rider Andrea Antonelli has died after a horrific crash on the opening lap at Moscow's Superbike World Championship round.

The race began in torrential conditions, the crash happening on the approach to the final corner, involving Antonelli and fellow rider Lorenzo Zanetti.
Officials stopped the race following the accident, Zanetti returning to his garage while Antonelli was transported to hospital.
The remainder of the event was eventually abandoned, including both the Supersport race and the second World Superbike race.
The rain first moved in during the opening World Superbike race, won by BMW's Marco Melandri.
The slippery conditions caused several leading riders to crash out in the opening laps, including pole sitter Davide Guigliano, while Aprilia's Eugene Laverty and Honda rider Leon Haslam also fell as the rain intensified mid-race.
Chaz Davies excelled on the slick circuit, opening up a sizable lead over teammate Melandri, while the remaining riders scrapped fiercly for the minor placings on a half-wet, half-dry track.
Suzuki's Leon Camier and Aprilia rider Michel Fabrizio were the first to make the switch to wet-weather rubber, becoming the first riders in the championship's history to make pit stops under new flag-to-flag racing rules.
The rest of the field followed suit as the rain began to cover the entire circuit, Melandri passing Davies in the closing laps to take one-two for the factory-backed BMW Italia squad.

Rounding out the Italian-themed podium was Ayrton Badovini, scoring the first podium finish for Ducati's troublesome Panigale after a late-race pass on Honda's Jonathan Rea.
Sixth place was enough to hand Aprilia's Sylvain Guintoli the championship lead, with former pace-setter Tom Sykes retiring early after a sepctacular engine failure.
The Italian heads the Englishman by just four points as the championship heads to Silverstone next month.
